About Temple Emanuel

Temple Emanuel is the only Reform congregation in the greater Roanoke area. Founded in 1889, Temple Emanuel represents the historical traditions of Reform Judaism as well as an innovative, creative approach to Jewish prayer and education. The theme of this Temple is to be found in its name, Emanuel, which is Hebrew for "God is with us." Our Temple has adopted this name, symbolic of the mission of the Jewish Religion ... the calling forth of the faith in God and the fulfillment of God's purpose. Our programs include religious services, adult and family education, Tikkun Olam, and many social events. Guests are always welcome.

Temple Emanuel is heir to over 125 years of tradition. Today, our congregation is vibrant with song and prayer. Our membership is thriving. We continue to be proud of the new ways we learn to teach and to reach our congregants.

The growth of our congregation has led to improvements in the quality of Jewish life we offer our members. We enjoy a cantorial soloist at each of our High Holy Day Services, and we insure that our Torah Scrolls are maintained on a regular basis. Continuing education classes for adults and the Jewish Community Preschool  and Shalom for our children meet the congregation's lifelong learning needs.
