Israel and Temple Emanuel

Temple Emanuel
has a deep and abiding connection with the land of Israel. Since 2007, congregants from Temple Emanuel have participated in two community trips to Israel, and planning for a third trip is already under way. You can see some of the places we visited in the slideshow below.

Everlasting Impressions
We asked Temple Emanuel members to recall their impressions and experiences when they visited Israel for the first time. Here are the memories they shared:

* Rabbi Cohen remembers how she felt as a 16-year-old high school student when she learned that she was walking in the footsteps of Abraham (click here).

* Roanoke-area students who participated in the 2010 March of the Living describe their feelings about visiting Israel, as they sit around a kitchen table (click here).

* Sig Davidson discusses his first trip to Israel, a United Jewish Appeal mission in 1970 (click here).

* Fred Sachs recalls the thrilling words he heard on his first day in Israel (click here).
